Will this package have the ability to play a video clip (stored on the computer) to a TV or moniter when triggered? That would be the perfect solution to a problem we have!
Phoenix

Actually this has already been discussed between ourselves, and yes with a little software modification it is indeed a possibility.

Adding video would indeed be cool, I guess it depends on how much demand there is for video triggering, and how customers would expect it to work/look.

I'm glad you brought up the idea of play-back on a second monitor as indeed this would be an important feature, and indeed whilst video playback itself is fairly easy, the tricky bit is to hide evidence of the computer from your guests, it kind of spoils the suspension of disbelieve if they spot the characteristic trappings of the Window operating system.

I talked to Jerry last night about the Exorcist, and it sounds like this will be one heck of a product! By characteristics, do you mean things like the program window being used to play the video?
Also, this might have an easy solution, but what type of wires need to be ran from the exorcist to your show scenes? I think I read somewhere that USB cable should not exceed 16 feet in length, or loss of signal may occur.
Phoenix

I mean the window control icons all these features of the window that tell you that are looking at a PC, they can be removed, Id just have to figure out how.

Exorcist connects to the PC via a USB cable and yes there are limits to USB cable length, I believe its a max length of 16 feet per individual cable which can be extended to a max of 80 feet if you connect the cables with hubs.

In practise you don't have to have the Exorcist IO unit actually at the set, you could have it by the computer and connect the on set sensors to the IO unit by cables of unlimited length.

The other consideration is the IR receiver, this has a 16' cable, it may be possible to extend this but I cant comment on how well that would work.

Of course, if you were planning on using your computer to drive Video then you would have it on set, Video signals degrade over long cable lengths.

VIDEO WITH EXORCIST ?

Just checking in to see if there has been anymore progress on adding video to the Exorcist system.

Exorcist Software Video Upgrade

Last year I ordered the exorcist and I was wondering what it would cost me to upgrade the software to the video enabled version?
lerandell

wow, video would be cool! we are working on a peppers ghost effect and having a video trigger this way would be nice. it looks like we will be pressing play on the DVD play this year. maybe I could get this for 2009.

The Video playback feature in Exorcist works pretty well, there are 4 video players that can playback the video file over the main monitor or an auxiliary monitor/projector.

I just received a copy of the software yesterday and have been playing around with it to be familiar with setting up the routines. The box has not yet arrived in the mail.

I noticed a quirk with the video playback which I don't know how to resolve. When my video is the first item in the routine, it works without problems. When it comes after any other item such as a sound being played, the screen just remains pitch black. Even when I have the video loop by it's self, the first play through is fine, the second is black. I have tested on two different computers. The video cards were a GeForce 7100 and an ATI FireGL V5000. The drivers for both cards have been updated.

Could this be because I don't have the physical board attached (doubtful, but just a thought). Any input you have is appreciated.

LOL, sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

So far, I've been really enjoying playing with the app and I can't wait to get everything running.

I guess while I'm at it I have a question about disarming the routine. When I disarm Exorcist, the functions such as "Play If" "Reset if", "Triggers" "Resets", Etc. Stay grayed out and I cannot modify them. Is that by design on the 1.1.1.1 version? I noticed that in the demo video on the site, they go back to being able to be modified.
Phoenix

that should rectify itself when you get the Exorcist box, without the box what you have is just a demo copy, the box is the key that unlocks everything

Great! Thanks.

Sorry to be on again with another question.

I'm having difficulty with the creation of the 7.1 audio so that the file will only play from one speaker. I have completed the steps to create the Mono and silent versions of my file.

The trouble I'm running into is when I'm trying to create the .avi version with the 7.1 encoded audio. I put the files as asked into the 7.1 encoding software, select the channel the sound should come through and then press the create file. The file it creates though is 0KB in size and cannot be played.

Is there something that I'm missing?
Phoenix

How are you creating the silent mask?

What operating system are you using?

The 7.1 sound file mixer is actually a piece of Microsoft software that I've added a GUI to, so I cant really pretend to know a lot about it.

Over the last couple of weeks I too have been using it and have found exactly the same problems, so, here are my observations

1) It doesn't work on Windows Vista, use XP!!

2) Audacity can make a silent mask but it isn't always the best way to do it, using Sound recorder to reduce the volume level is far more reliable.

3) make sure you convert the original sound file to mono and maybe 8 bit mono before you try making the silent mask from it.

Hello again Phoenix.
1) Yes, I'm using Windows XP pro.

2) I've created the Silent mask in both Audacity and then also with the windows sound recorder. The windows recorder version was by turning down the volume as suggested in the instructions provided with exorcist. They both seem to create a file that is the correct length of silence. The Audacity one though is 0kb and the windows recorder one is the same size as the original file.

3) The file is mono. I'll need to double check if it's been changed to 8bit.

Thanks for the help as always. You guys are really great.

When you open the sound file in sound recorder do a convert to a suitable format and save it, then make the silent mask again using sound recorder, this process ensures that both the sound and mask files share teh same pedigree.

the Audacity method does cause problems, and whilst being the easiest its not the best, I've always found the sound recorder method whilst a little clumsy gives the most consistent results.
